Our community efforts relay on strong alliances with local agencies and community groups.
Through the help of our partners we are
able to educate the public about the importance of lifelong
good nutrition and physical activity. Over the
past year, the Nutrition Council has provided nutrition
education programs and services to a vast array of community
groups.
Residents
at the Joseph House, a substance abuse treatment program, can
tell you that good nutrition and being physically active is
key during recovery. Working on Wellness, a
year-long nutrition wellness program encouraged over 100
veterans to make healthier food choices by eating more fruits and vegetables,
choosing whole grains and developing meal
planning skills. They also were sparked to be move more
by walking to breakfast each morning which entitled them
to receive a new pair
of walking shoes. Funding for this program was provided
by the Wolgelmuth-Herschede Foundation.
Establishing good nutrition and eating habits early in life
helps foster lifelong wellness. By partnering with
Hamilton County Job and Family Services we provided nutrition
training and resources to over 300 family child care providers
last year. We not only helped give their children
a healthy start but also improve their own health.
We have inspired thousands of other greater Cincinnati
residents to choose a healthier lifestyle by collaborating
with other social service agencies and community groups such
as:
Cincinnati Recreation Commission
Civic Garden Center
Court Street Clinic
Faith-based Groups
Head Start Trainings
